How can I best prepare data collectors for using Tangerine?

If you are using the software for EGRA/EGMA, training on the use of Tangerine for data collection should be integrated into the regular assessor training programs. Based on pilot testing, only an additional hour at most is recommended so that enumerators can become familiar with the hardware and its main functions. The training should include a portion where all the enumerators listen to the same stimuli and record their responses, while someone on the team records the ‘gold standard’ reference model against which they will be compared. Then have everyone upload their tests, including the ‘gold standard’. By comparing the different responses in the CSV file you can establish enumerator reliability and consistency.

Further information on training topics and an example agenda is available in the Annexes of the Tangerine User’s Guide.
